BARA: Officials from the Jamaat-e-Islami local on Sunday called on the government to launch an operation against the kiln factories to remove toxic fumes from the factories in Bara tehsil in the Khyber district.

The request was made by the vice president of the Jamaat-e-Islami Youth Wing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Shah Jahan Afridi during a press conference. Other officials of Jamaat-e-Islami Bara, Saleem Afridi, Shahid Khan, Kifayatullah, Wadud Afridi and others were present on the occasion.

They said residents faced severe hardship due to smoke from steelworks and power outages in various areas of Bara.

They added that the population is facing the shortage of drinking water and, on the one hand, suffers from various illnesses due to the toxic fumes emanating from the factories in the Bara bazaar.

The head of the MOC office called on the owners of the factory and the district administration to take practical measures to control smoke emissions.

JI members said the Tribal Electric Supply Company supplied electricity to steel mills while ordinary consumers were denied the same and humiliated. Speakers said the power company has made the lives of residents miserable due to improper shedding of electrical load.
