While most offices at Western Carolina University will be closed for the extended Christmas and New Years holidays, WCU’s Advancement Division will be open for several hours on the last two days of December to help donors do so. their end-of-year donations.

Almost all WCU offices will be closed from 5 p.m. on Thursday, December 23 until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, although the Advancement Unit on the Cullowhee Campus is one of a handful. ‘exceptions. Monday, December 31st is the deadline for gifts to the university to be counted as charitable donations in the 2021 calendar year. Mailed checks must be stamped and online gifts time-stamped by midnight on the evening of the 31st. December. This requirement also applies to qualified charitable distributions (also known as QCDs) from an IRA.

December 31 is also the deadline for transferring donations from inventory and to the WCU Foundation account for the donor to receive charitable donation credit. Most gifts in stock take at least three business days to process.
